I need to add a heat shield on the wall behind my stove...

Durarock with 1" space behind it?

The height I'm guessing because of single wall pipe to the ceiling needs to be from the floor to the ceiling less 1" on top and bottom. should I screw it directly into the wall studs or add metal or wood strips to the studs then the durarock to the strips?

What material is needed other than durarock and how big does it need to be? Is tiling it OK as I would like to try and match the tile that is on the hearth.

I want it to look nice and match.

Well I found the pipe shield and the stove rear shield pretty inexpensive both for $200 so I didn't build a wall heat shield. The only thing I had an issue with is the manual still said to have stove 19" from wall with heat shield ( I thought it could be closer like 12") and pipe could be as close as 12" with pipe heat shield... so that's what I did 19" for the back of the stove and it came out to 16" for the pipe, finished product see picture (wood on right is 27" away manual said 24" or more for the sides).

Looks good. What is the wall material, adobe?

Yes stucco/adobe but as in all modern southwest home its laid over a wood frame and not solid LOL... but still a good inch thick.
