I currently picked up a thelin gnome from a close friend. Ran about 20 bags threw it and it's been great. My wife thoroughly cleans it daily. I started it two days ago and it ran for about ten minutes then the fire went out and it started filling with smoke. I restarted it and it cleared itself out and ran great. Cleaned it and tried again a day later and same result. This time I restarted and it would only vent NOT EXHAUST!! Filled my house with smoke. Does anyone no what this could be?? Please help very frustrated.

You have been removing clean-out covers weekly and cleaning out fly ash along heat exchangers? Has the combustion fan ever been removed and cleaned?

If you have been diligent with the exhaust pathway cleaning, I'm wondering if the brushes on the fan motor are shot ... Manual if you don't have one, (broken link removed)

Keep us posted and welcome to the forum.

Normally if that stove shuts down after about 10 minutes it's because it didn't get up to full temperature, so starting it again usually takes care of it because by then it is up to full temperature. Before you restart it empty the burnpot because if there are a lot of unburned pellets in there you will get mostly smoke and no fire on the restart. As Lake Girl said make sure you run the clean function with 1 clean out cover at a time removed, this will clean out the heat exchangers. I do this every time I clean the stove, I never removed the fan motor until it died after 6 seasons and my heat exchanger was very clean.

Don't know much about these stoves but wondering if the T2 sensor needs replacing if it is not the fan? T2 appears to be the equivalent of the Proof of Fire snap disc on most stoves...

We clean everything including taking off the heat exchange panels and behind them. The exhaust seems to be intermittent. I will try taking off the fan on the bottom and clean that out aswell. I do reach under and vacuum it out but have never removed it. Thanks for the help. I'll give it a shot !!

To take that fan out make sure you have a new gasket and high temp RTV. You will need both. You will also need to lay the stove on its side or stand it upside down to do the job. I find laying it on the side works best. There are detailed instructions on Thelin's website. I have not had to replace the T2 sensor on mine but I did change the T1. You might want to pull the T1 and make sure it is not clogged with ash, that does happen.

Ok sounds good. Thanks for the heads up. What's the T2/T1 sensor and where is it located? I did notice the back of the control box seems to have a lot of dust surrounding it. Tonight we are gonna clean everything possible without taking anything apart that needs new parts or gaskets etc to fix.

Details on the T1 & T2 sensor locations found above where I mention the T2 sensor ... follow the link. Keep us posted!

Take off the big shield on the back and then a small shield underneath and you will be able to access both sensors. No gaskets or other parts required.
