HI300 questions

So we've been burning in the HI300 for a few nights now. Man this thing really can throw some heat! Questions on loading it to the max for a long burn:
1. What size splits do you load?
2. What orientation?
3. How many of them?
4. Got a pic of the stove loaded up?
5. How long do you wait before shutting the air control down?

One final question, is there something inside temperature control that would sound like a piece of sheet metal dropping? It seems to happen as the stove is heating up or cooling down.

I'm running it at around 400-450 with the air control shut down. I guess my woods seasoned well

Welcome to the forums. I too have a HI300 and really do like it.

1. I typically use 16 to 17 inch splits/rounds. This allows a little wiggle room.
2. Typically load my stove N/S
3. Depends on my goal and the amount of coals. For max burns I will usually get three or four good size splits and fill in with rounds and small rounds.
4. do not have a pic right now
5. Usually begin shutting the air down when all the wood is fully engaged. Will shut it down in stages and will usually be where I need to be in about 30 to 40 minutes. I do not shut the air down all the way and will usually leave the air control open just a tad unless it is for the night and then will shut it all the way so I will have some coals for the morning.

Glad you like your insert. We have a few HI300 customers up here in Central NY. Everyone seems very happy with the heat, quality and the burn times. Enjoy it!

What defines a good size split?
