Next year I am planning to sell and move, possibly going the Barndomenium route, What Im looking to research is a massive wood stove with a long burn time to use as supplimental heat to cut down on propane usage. And a large pellet stove to use in the shop with a long burn time as well . I thought to do a wood stove for both but I would much rather use a pellet stove in the shop so I can shut it down when finished and not worrying with a long burn out phase. My main concern is the largest wood burning stove with a long burn time ( and must have a glass door ) as it will be the main attraction in the main part of the home.

The largest applicable woodstoves will both have 8" chimneys which cost a lot more than 6" but those stoves are the Blaze King king and the regency 5200. Both have windows and long burn times.
I use a woodstove in my shop and it's great. Leaving a fire burning in there unattended is no different that going to sleep at night or leaving your home with the fire unattended. I do not wish I installed a pellet stove, those things are noisy and require tons of maintenance. I burn all of the less desirable firewood in the shop stove along with lumber cutoffs.
I agree with the shop stove, using the odd wood stuff to an extent just keeping the flue cleaned. I had a massive old school pedestal wood stove before that I wish I never got rid of it, I cant remember the name but it would take a 28" log, glass door and had a 6" flue. If I remember correctly I got about a 10 hour burn fully stuffed . Im hoping to find something nice and will probly cost an arm and a leg now LOL

If you leave yourself lots of room around the pellet stove, have a good vent and OAK, the pellet stove should be good.
Maybe a big hopper too. You can turn it on while you are sleeping, or leave it on all night on thermostat mode. Then like you say, 20 minutes later it's off so you can sleep easy.

I didnt know about them until I came across them on youtube when I was looking to buy an affordable energy efficient house, looking at ideas to insulate and all that... If it was up to me Id move to where its cold year round or mostly as I hate all those itchy bugs ( Skeeters, chiggers ect...)
Weirdly, it seems that the really cold states have more skeeters. Alaska, minnesota, etc. We've been nearly skeeter free this year in western WA. No snakes either.
I did a lot of barndominium type things in my shop. Sky is the limit.
