Is it normal that my cat is glowing even with the bypass is open? I can see flames heading towards and wicking up the flame shield that surrounds the cat. Bypass fully open.

I'm not familiar with Regency but is this after a burn and the CAT has already been in active zone? Could it be just cooling down?

Could this possibly be faulty mechanics?
Pun intended......LOL

It was this morning after I had reloaded on some coals from an overnight burn. Cat temp was definitely below light off temps but was still warm from the burn overnight.

If flames go there, heat goes there and it's possible it can glow then.
If flames go there with the bypass open, you may have a lot of draft. How tall is your flue?

A bit tall, could be due to that.
Not crazy.

I would not worry about the cat glowing unless you see no flame going to the bypass area (indicating it doesn't really open).
