I just got this saddle tee in the mail. I was going to use it to tap into a baseboard line so I wouldn't have to drain the zones to install some vents. Turned out I did drain the zones, and I abandoned the concept anyway.

Be that as it may, it looks to be high quality and the gasket was stated to be nitrile so it's heat resistant. It's purpose is to put in a small expansion tank without cutting pipe, so there is a 3/4" female fitting. Included is an Allen wrench for the bolts.

It's just so much better than the saddle valves you see for ice makers, etc.

I think saddles are only for copper, not aware of any able to pierce steel pipe.

I've never had a saddle that I was able to fully turn off without leaking. They seem to be fine when open but slowly drip when closed. I would avoid if possible

Don't they make one that has a charge in it that "fires" when hit, piercing the pipe its on?

I recall a friend who said he shot one off in a vice one time just for kicks, and it went, well, through several things lol.

I think he also mentioned they had issues because somewhere, some idiot(s) used them on gas lines. Either sued, or stopped making them.
