Homemade fireplace tools

  • Active since 1995, Hearth.com is THE place on the internet for free information and advice about wood stoves, pellet stoves and other energy saving equipment.

We strive to provide opinions, articles, discussions and history related to Hearth Products and in a more general sense, energy issues.

We promote the EFFICIENT, RESPONSIBLE, CLEAN and SAFE use of all fuels, whether renewable or fossil.
Here is a picture of mine. Bought kids garden tools at Menards like Sadpanda. I cut the rake in half and reattached the handle to each side. From left to right.. rake for moving coals front to back (my most used tool), shovel, shovel with homemade hood, rake for moving coals left and right, and hoe for pushing ash into piles.

The hood on the shovel helps keep the ash from falling off and creating dust clouds. I scoop up ash and dump it into a bucket that I keep covered with a towel. Helps keep the ash from going everwhere. I made it out of duct work and riveted it together.
