or Not since the average pricing seems to be up to 269.00 ton for the usual lower grade ashy stuff[ mostly].. are you contemplating spending 10 or 20 bucks more for lot better stuff from private dealers or wherever? example is I got Lignetics [green bags] for 5.00 more per ton[274.00] which would have been almost $50.00 more back when HD sold tons for 229.00 short time ago.

This price is way to much for the quality pellet you get. I pay the extra and get higher quality, less cleaning and hotter output. This year $275 for Barefoot. Big box stores are way over pricing their pellets the last few years.

That's what I'm talkin about... I really hope HD price themselves out of the market or sales drop tremendously this year at those prices..." We know we sell mostly low grade stuff but we'll gouge you anyways since we know we're convenient for ya'll">>
. plenty of time for all you pellet stove owners to shop around now that Home Depot "showed the're hand" early this year.. it's only August.. Not like last year when there were shortages and pellets showed up late in the season everywhere..

The pellets the big box stores are selling around here would be a buy at $219-$229 a ton compared to the better quality pellets I can get. Either these stores are getting ripped off by their supplier or the stores are trying to rip us off. Either way I will not buy their pellets at these prices.

I went with Greene Team from Lowes for around $300 (including delivery). I just took the first decent brand I could find that would deliver 5 tons at a reasonable rate. I dont want to be chasing pellets all winter like last year. If the supply holds this year, then I'll be more likely to wait and see next year, but I'm happy knowing I've got a full stock for the winter.

I have yet to buy big box, plenty of locals around. Plus id rather spend the extra for the better pellet and support the local community.

you may be right, but not a risk I'm willing to make. spent way to much energy last year chasing pellets. It was fine last year until the first big blizzard in late January. Everyone rushed out to stock up, emptied out all the box stores, and they were never able to catch up.

I don't have a choice. I like buying from Home Depot or Lowes because I get the 6 or 12 months no interest. Then I just use my tax return to pay it off. Been doing that for a few years. I don't have a grand laying around to put down at a smaller shop, and I don't feel like putting it on a high interest credit card. I also just filled up my oil for $1.95/gallon for the first time in about 5 years. I'll probably be using both this year.

Wish all the locals didn't have Green Supremes; local Aubuchon, local stove company, next town's farm/garden center, next town's hardware store all only carry GS. Oh, wait, I can get NEWPs (aren't GS's from NEWP anyway?) from the local Agway for $300/ton (no delivery). No thanks, I'll stick with BB if I can still get FSU's.

I've been searching all over..I was trying to get Lignetics or Press to Logs. I found out tractor supply brand here is rebagged Lignetics/Press to Logs. Was going to buy at ts but they don't deliver. By chance I stopped at HD yesterday and bought 5 tons of Fireside Ultras at 264 per ton with $69 delivery charge. Hope I like them.

Thats very odd that you're aubuchon only has 1 type because mine has like 6 or so types of pellets. Does your area have low demand for pellets?

anyone who waited last year till january or the 1st blizzard to stock up were 6 months late already....
I understand your reluctance since you 'chased pellets' last year...
my point was that with HD having pellets out this early and there new gouging prices. it gives people some time to shop around local and not feel pressured to grab what they can or what's avaiable at BBS's.

Tony how you like Tebow playing last sunday?, looked alot better than sanchez

Saw that Tony, Red Sox here are doing poorly also, They sent alot of there player's to the Dodger's few year's ago too, I'm a Pat's Fan also...Let's hear from the Brady Hater's!!

Many of the Aubuchons around these parts are located in small stripmalls, or small lots by them selves..
No room for a "lot" of stock.. I suspect that is why.

Heck, they didn't even have pellets last year (and what they got in several weeks ago is gone now). I think they just figured with 2 stove places in town and Agway, they didn't want the bother - I remember years ago their parking lot used to be full of pellets (don't know what brands as I was burning wood at the time). Plus, they have little storage room so they had to take up part of their small parking lot to store it. One of the stove places shut down (illness in family), so maybe they are trying to decide if it is worth it to jump back in the game. Plus, we are getting a TS store soon, so they'll have pellets too.

I hear ya! I have pellets stored already, but they may not see the light of day until oil jumps back up. I was hearing forecasts of 20 to 30 per barrel for oil, in which case not only would HD be put on ice, but so would all the other dealer/distributors. Unless they are able (and willing) to set their prices just as any other commodity, pellets will definitely price themselves out of the market. I don't care who says they are doing it for the environment and don't mind spending more, it comes down to the mighty dollar for folks. And for those who dispute saying that pellets throw more heat or are cheaper than this or that... BTUs are BTUs. No fooling Mother Nature.
