How much have you burned so far this season?

Do you burn 24/7 or just part time? Year your house was built and square footage, how well insulated. Don't forget to give your location if not in your profile. Trying to get an idea on how much I will burn for the season. I realize there are many variables, just curious how I currently compare to others in my same climate type.

1600 square foot slab house, new windows and doors, built in 1965. insulation wall ok maybe could use more in attic, first have to take care of code violations left by previous owner.


45 bags for me. Big box pellets, only thing easily available.

we heat the whole house (925 sq. feet) comfortably with the pellet stove. even when it gets to minus teens and minus 20's.
just 20 bags.started about sept. 26th
but it really hasn't gotten cold yet. only a few days of 24/7 so far.
today the stove was off much of the day.

Heating my house from the basement, I've burned 17bags so far (stove has been running on/off since late Oct.) House is Circa 1830 Cape (1 1/2story) appx. heating 2000sq/ft. new windows/doors and decent insulation.

EDIT: After reading prior posts, I don't feel so bad burning 17 bags so far, lol. However heating from the basement, I'm def. gonna burn 2-3bags per day when it gets cold. Guess that won't bother me to much since I will have a HOT basement and warmer 1st floor than I would burning oil.

1500 sq foot cape style house. Stove in basement with insulated walls. House built in 1948 second story added in 1988. New windows (not replacements, gutted and new double hung), blown in insulation a few years ago on first floor. All in all reasonably insulated and not very drafty. Have only burned a few bags since we have been jumping to almost 70 every couple days in eastern MA and then dropping. I usually start steady burn at end of Nov and burn 24/7 with a turn down at night except when below 20 deg. I have a super efficient oil system (if I'm going to burn any oil, I going to burn it right and cheap) that backs up the pellets when needed and in the shoulder seasons. For over ten years I have burned a steady 3 ton a year. Hope it helps.

7 or 8 bags so far. Had about 217 bags to start out. Heating about 2250 square feet. Average or slightly below average insulation (gotta work on that). Not burning 24/7 yet but next week might start with the cold coming.

Disclaimer: I have burned 4 small loads in the woodeater that I just installed. Gotta get used to it. Nothing beats the heat from the woodeater but pellets are so much more convenient!

Since Sept 24th we have used 29 bags. Stove comes on with thermostat. Pretty soon it will be on manual and the second stove will be used more often.

Heating my house with a wood stove insert in the basement and a pellet insert in the upstairs, and my pellet insert is ona thermostat so it runs when it needs to. I'm on my 3rd bag but I only started burngin about 2 weeks ago. The wood insert throws a lot of heat.

2,500sqft farm house built in 1900 with some insulation. It has been a month and a day since my first burn. 25 bags burned so far with pellet stove heat only and boiler turned off. This is my first season with the stove so I have let it run up to 48 hours w/o touching it to make sure its up to the task of heating all winter. I do not have a stat yet so it has been in manual mode.

I ended up with 5 tons of pellets based off what I have read other people burn a year in a similar sized house and climate.

1600 sq. ft. two-story house; all new storm windows on first floor and new blown-in insulation in the wall. Pellet is sole source of heat. But more importantly, it just hasn't been that cold up here outsisde of Boston. As of today, 5 bags.

9 Bags. Had the stove about a week. 24/7 On manual lowest setting, no thermostat yet. Pellet stove is in the basement. 2200sq ft side split, 4 levels built in 71. Poor insulation. Electric baseboard heaters, hoping not to turn them on. Interested to see what happens when the -30's Celsius and high winds hit us.

Hoping to see some more folks in my general area post so I get an idea of what to expect. Come on, lets see 'em.
