C'mon hunting season!
I forgot to check mine with the dollar bill. Seems like the secondary burn flames are moving faster lately?

I replace the door gasket if it starts to leak, about every 6 years so far.

What is the dollar bill test?

You close your stove door on a dollar bill and try to remove the bill. Should be a snug fit, difficult to remove, all the way around.

Thanks, I'll give it a try.

Make sure the stove is out first...

Now thats funny!!! Good thing its not a 100 dollar bill test!!!

Use some paper instead. lol

We replace only when it is needed. Our last one was 12 years.

The 700+ billion stimulus just passed - it's the $10 bill test now.

Done it once in 6 seasons on a used stove.

Purchased sstove in May 2001. Haven't replaced anything yet........ I hope I didn't just jinx myself.

i would say it is a good idea to repalce door gasket about every 5 yrs it just a good thing to do like changing your oil in a car

Unfortunately almost every year. One of my few complaints about this stove. And there are 3 gaskets.

I noticed my secondary burn is not as "lazy" as it once was. I also can damper the stove down 100% so I am wondering if it is time after 3 years of 24/7 burning. It is a 7/8 inch gasket so there is plenty of material to compress. When I first got the stove I had to adjust the hinge 3 times the first year due to compression and the door was hard to close...now, not so much. Guess next down time I need to check with the dollar bill test.

I have a 20 year-old Jotul and, according to the previous owner, the door gasket has never been changed. Now, admitedly, the stove has had very light use after the first few years of ownership.

Hey burntime,

That 7/8" gasket is going to be hard to find, at least it was for me. I just went through the process of changing mine and I made the mistake of taking off the old one BEFORE I got the new one. I thougt I could just run to the local Lowes or my favorite hardware store and find one but the largest gasket I could find in this town was a 5/8". Even the dealer had to order one.

I found a place on the web that sold gasket by the foot and got it from them. I think I paid around $20 for 6' of black 7/8" rope gasket. Let me know if you want the name of the place.
