I used some incense to go around and check my stove joints, welds and gaskets. There is an area around my door gasket that was pulling in some smoke probably 2 inches long. Before I replace the gasket, should it be absolutely air tight or will there always be a slight leak somewhere?

Shouldn't be pulling in air. Before replacing the gasket try "fluffing" it with a pick like a dental tool or something similar.
As long as your burns are good I wouldn't worry too much about such a small leak, if you start having control issues you know where to start....
