how to connect to my metal chimney from stove pipe?

so what you're looking at here is the inside top of my firebox for my old wood bring stove. i want to run a freestanding stove pipe into that. seems like i have to do some modifications to my existing chimney pipe to make a safe connection to the stove?

forgot to mention that silver liner was attached to a freestanding gas stove that has since been removed along with the gas line.

You will need an insulated liner what you have is a Zero clearance fireplace and their chimneys are not rated to take the temps required for a wood stove.

There’s no safe way to hook into that chimney. You need to run an insulated 6” stainless liner through the existing chimney.

Use your old ZC chimney as a chase and run SS insulated pipe from your stove to the top of the chimney, with proper termination at the top.

Most often parts of you current cap will need to be used along with a new liner cap, to utilize the air cooling of the chimney pipe.
