Our stove is right below our return air ducts. Turning that hvac fan on keeps our whole house comfortable. The problem is the fan is either on or off. I would like a thermostat that allowed the fan to be turned on either by the room coming up to a set temperature or just programming it to go off after a certain amount of time.

Has anyone solved this with an off the shelf solution?

You want a device called a thermguard. It will allow you to cycle your central fan on a programmatic schedule.

I just got off the phone with Indian honeywell tech support. It looks like model TH8321R and RTH9580wf should both allow custom fan programming. I just ordered the first off of ebay (my thermostat died when I had a lighting strike). I will report back with the results.

Also not that those models should work with a 6 wire heatpump with back up electric heat strips. If you have another setup you might want to double check that these will work.
