I don't like the blower..

Hey guys

I have an Osburn 2300. There is a variable speed blower mounted on the back. But...I don't ever use it. Why? I don't like it...it's the only thing I don't like about my stove.

It simply pushes air up and not across my stove top. So it essentially cools the stove pipe (not good) and that's about it.

Anyone else with an issue like this?

That's odd, I hadn't noticed this before but see what you mean. Most stoves have a deflector or bend at the top of the rear heat shield to push the air over the stovetop. With that rear bent up lip on the 2300 this is not possible. Not sure what they were thinking. Send it back to engineering!



PS: Looks like the Enerzone 2.3 doesn't have this issue.

I've only used my blower when it was really cold and windy outside, to increase heat transfer rate from the stove. Even though I don't use it, I like having it, because it allows me to drop the stove temp quickly, by 100-200, if I've accidently let the stove get too hot.

Exactly BeGreen Hmmm.

I simply put a tripod fan beside the stove and blow the air over the top to help transfer the heat and cool the stove top at the same time.

I suspect there are a lot of btus in that flue pipe as long as not over cooled why not send them to the space rather than outside?

I personally would rather not cool the stove pipe. Blowing air over it drops the temperature significantly fast. I am concerned this would cool the gases much easier and help stimulate some creosote buildup that I don't want. With the blower on the probe temperature goes from 500 to 300 in 30 minutes.

For what it's worth... I found having a fan pointed at the single-wall black pipe did cool it down, causing some creosote formation... but the majority of it was in that area of pipe, not further up in the double-walled insulated pipe. And it was never enough to really be worried about.

If that lip was reduced to 1/4" the rear shield deflector could be bent at a 90º angle over the stove top. Of course, there goes the warranty.

Agreed. I may contact the company to see "what's up" with the design.

Nothernontario: I figured as much. Hence why I point my fan towards my stove top and not the pipe itself.

Does your dealer also sell Enerzone? If so, maybe they would give you a reasonable trade in?

I have no dealer!! The guy I bought my stove from has contacts to get Osburn. But he is an installer. He has no store, nothing.

I am happy with my stove. I know how it works, he heats like a beast. It's like getting rid of your first car. I just can't get myself to do it. lol
