I received an estimate for a liner install?

I received an estimate to repair the chimney crown that was damaged in a hail storm. The mortar was damaged and the bid is $145 by a local sweep company. The other item is the liner install (6 inch) at $1815 for a grand total of $1960 tax included. The quote doesn't itemize so I'm not sure if this includes removing the damper and sealing the flue, insulated liner etc. How does this sound?

Sounds like a lot of money! But, I don't know what all he needs to do to your chimney to make it right?

without knowing the length of the liner is it insulated or the difficulty of the roof its hard to say for sure .The average liner job we charge around 12 to 15 hundred.

I just got a quote for $1750. This is a 25' 316TI insulated 6" pipe, 13"x13" cap, but no blockoff plate, i have to pull the permit. So basically they are charging about $1000 for labor.

Based on my research on the site I can get all of my material for ~$600-$700 + $300 for a lift rental to get on the roof + 2 cases beer and do the work myself. I would rather keep the money in my pocket but that's just me.

So how did it go?

I tied a rope to mine and rented a lift. I don't regret letting the machine lift the liner up to the top of the chimney one bit.

It's snowing again and I still don't have my insert installed. No way I can pay someone $1900 ish for my install. I'm looking on Woodland directs website, has anyone bought a liner from them?

One last question, I don't have a flue collar on my stove, do I need to buy one from a place that still sells Country Flame parts or is there a reducer in a liner kit? Thank.

I'm going to put in a liner in my daughter and son in laws house this summer . Total cost should be about 800 , I'll fabricate the block off plate and insulate it with Roxull. I have a JLG 40H lift ,that will make the job go alot easier and safer. I will never pay anybody to do something for me that I can do myself. Do the research and you'll see its not that hard to do , just do it safely.

The City of Amarillo building permit application form lists fireplaces and wood stoves as things that require a permit.

If you have a straight forward install paying someone $1000 in labor to drop a liner is insane.

Do you have any pics of the chimney it's going into? Like was said above, it's a pretty straight forward job. It took me most of a day to do it alone. $1k is more than I would pay but it doesn't seem out of line for what most professionals charge for labor these days.

I am getting a liner installed on a 2-story house, roughly 25ft. The labor + liner is $1000. I would say call as many installers as you can to get quotes.

I just had mine done in order to install a stove into a existing fireplace with two story chimney, The sweep pulled the permit used smooth walled heavy gauge stainless, insulated block off plate, top plate, filled it with vermiculite and installed the stove for around 1,200 bucks. I live on a island in narragansett bay in R.I.and nothing comes cheep here, I think 1,800 is kind of steep. But no matter what you pay make sure you get the highest quality stainless with smooth walls for ease of cleaning. Mine was done in october and has

I did the research, bought my liner and insulation kit from chimney liner direct and installed it myself with the assistance of my 17 yr.old son.

We both learned a lot. We are going to install #2 this weekend if the weather cooperates. I had a $1000 quote for the install. I would never pay that if I can do it myself.

Hopefully your town is more organized than mine. I called the city planning department and they told me I didn't ned a permit but it must be inspected and the fire department did those. Called the fire department and they had no idea what I was talking about. THis went back and forth until I gace up and provided photos to my insurance company of the entire install and they were happy, Long story short, Document the entire install.

I would not accept a non-itemized estimate, for anything, period.

I have done two liners, both were single story, easy slope roofs. One insulated, one vermiculite added after instal. Neither was more than $800 in material costs. One needed a damper cut and block off plate.

I got a quote for a 25' uninsulated 6" SS liner with a cap installed for $1100 for materials and labor. And that is from a place that is known for not being cheap.
