if your pellet stove door gaskit is flat and tattered how do you know if it was a 1/2" or 3/8"?

I am trying to get this stove working soon...and one of the things I have to do is replace the door gasket....its smashed flat...worn out...tattered...I am assuming all door gaskets start out round.....even though its hard to imagine this gasket having been round ever!...it looks like the typical rope type...and there is a hardware store here that sells the gasket with adhesive...but they have two different sizes...3/8" and 1/2" ..I guess my first question is are there any other sizes it could be?...like 5/8" or 3/4" because it looks big...but of course its smashed flat...so its hard to tell...to me it diffidently looks larger than 3/8" so if there are only two sizes commonly used...then its got to be 1/2"...but if there is such thing as 5/8" then I am not so sure....its an old stove so the brand will probably not help...but its a horizon eclipse.....any advice would help!..thanks

Yes there are many different sizes, not just 2. Take it out and if you can get a decent piece of it, if it doesn't all fall apart, take it somewhere with a better selection. You can usually line then up and figure out what size your gasket was originally.

Next to the flash light might not be the best place. I suggest to my customers to leave it in the bathroom for a month or two. By then it should have the pages dogeared.

I do have the manual...thanks to a member here on this site...trust me, not easy to find this manual!! ...but it does not have a specs page or anything about the size of the gasket...this is an older stove and the user manual is only about 10 small pages long...(but incredibly useful even if its lacking the gasket size)) .maybe If I cut the gaskit...and round it out some....maybe then i can tell...

Ericwest - I checked the other pages of the manual that i didnt send you and it doesn't mention door gasket size. I replaced the gasket on my eclipse when I first got it and used 5/8". I picked it up at Menards.

343amc...THANKS!!...that really helps out.....this gasket is so shot that its impossible to really tell what it was originally...I will pick up a 5/8" gasket tomorrow and some adhesive too...
