Hi all,
Looking for some info here on the best way to go about installing a wood stove to an older fireplace/chimney... I have a wood stove in the basement thats piped... and want to add one to the living room fireplace... This fireplace has cast iron Damper that really rusted out so I'll be removing it... ... The chimney itself is in fine shape.... it looks to be an 8 inch flue lined with clay/ceramic. The hearth will be adequate for me to place the woodstove into the opening....haven't really decided on what model yet...but I may wind up moving my dutchwest (it'll fit well) up there and putting a wood/coal supplimental furnace in the basement.
If I put in a woodstove in this fireplace...... How far up the Chimney should I run the vent pipe? when I do so... should I fabricate a baffle/shield around the pipe with sheet metal where that damper was?
What have you done in these situations? Would you or did you run the vent to a liner all the way up the chimney?
Any advice /experience welcome here... I've never put a wood stove into a fireplace...always used pipe...
Thanks,
al
