First year heating with 100% wood and loving it. Was wondering what other people had spent to get their current set up going? My minimalist setup is a SS chimney liner, Selkirk doublewLl stovepipe, and a little century 16" stove
Just trying to get a feel for what a typical full setup costs total. Like everything required that was not previously owned to make wood heat primary possible
kozy heat z42 $2250, selkirk class A, 18 ft $330, plus a few install bands, cap etc. Probably about $2800.
super 27- $1650, plus 26 ft class A, $500, tee, cap, bands, $100, double wall stove pipe connector, probably $150. = 2400. total estimate $5200, heating 3800 sqft. House is all electric, $114 electric bill average.
What is missing from these lists is the cost of building the required hearth area to match the stove specs. Also missing the CO detector, fire extinguisher, the fire tending tools, indoor wood storage, etc.
Staright perlite is not approved and will settle allot over time leaving the top uninsulated and when it compresses in the bottom the perlite has no insulating value left there either
About 4k for my stove, not including my wood processing tools that I already had. I am looking at about 15k completed for my gasifier install, but that involves replumbing most of my current hydronic system.
Had pros install my chimney and purchased stove. Total around 4k. Savings on propane per season average $2400 so after first two seasons I am ahead and the house is actually warm in the winter instead of barely tolerable.
Did/do a lot of DIY(hearth, tools, etc..) so cost can vary but I am very happy with the initial cost. I would probably DIY the chimney system if I had it to do all over again but wanted insurance approval and cert. Insurance Co. likes a pro even if you can do a better job yourself.
Around 70$ to build hearth pad. About 650$ for stove, 100 bucks in double wall stove pipe, and I think about 350-400 for a liner to reline old exterior chimney. I guess I'm a cheapo but it heats well.
Out of 4 stoves in 4 different locations from the lowest cost
1. Century 2000 $499 + $20 Stove pipe
2. Two englander 30s @ $650ea + $20 Stove pipe
3. Harman 300TL $1995 Stove + $20 Stove pipe.
