install issues....

So I have my hearth placed where I would like the stove to be which is the best place for it in my living room. Problem is outside is a deck so I moved it about 8 inches over away from the deck. Now the exhaust will exit about 2 feet to the left and a foot down from a window. I really don't want to half to go up with the pipe since it gets damn expensive plus I will and up moving my stove out another almost foot and since my living room is only 11.5 feet wide that's a crap ton of space eaten. I'll shoot a pic in a second since I still don't know how to add with my ATRIX

I believe the termination of the vent is the important part when it comes to windows. Is there anyway to work it where the termination is 4' or more away?

My front porch starts about where the outlet is. I don't plan on opening them windows in the winter anyhow.

Yeah, I can move it down in the room but it will kill they room since I will have to move a couch and loveseat across from one another almost with a table between.

I have had my stove in two different rooms... both places were close to windows.

My dealer did an inspection after I bought the stove. He asked that I disable the window so it could not be opened... one screw will do that. Most codes require a set distance from a window or door from the termination cap. i think mine, in the second place it's been installed, is about 40" or so... it's within code afaik.

Some locations are pretty strict when it comes to stove installs... some owners are pretty picky, too. You have to decide where it will be safe for you and your family. Look at your stove's owners manual to see what the manufacturers recommendation is...

Will your install have to be inspected?

No it won't but if something happens I don't want any insurance issues.I guess I can terminate off a 45 to make more distance.

That stove is an England stove, you have to have at least 3' of vertical to comply with the stove manufacturer's installation instructions, which is step one in most code requirements.

So from the sounds of it, it really won't matter what I do in this spot since I can't stretch the house. Mathematically I can't get the room I need bet the window and door for code since it has to be so far from the door and window.

I do see you have a hearth plate already, and a very nice looking one also. Did you buy that or make it. What I'm getting to here, would a corner install work for you. I know you have the hearth already, but maybe if you bought it, you can exchange it for a corner hearth. It would work for a corner install too, but one of the square corners, would stick straight out in front of stove. I have a corner install & glad I did it that way when installing stove. It seems to direct the heat out more to the center of the room.

A total mess since it will push the stove out another foot from the wall.

Yes I did make this hearth, it's defiantly not a corner design so if I do go to the corner I'm screwed into either incorporating into a corner design or starting all over.

Couple options......

1.- Permanently seal the Window shut... (see Kroosers post above about screw)

2.- Go 1 ft above the window outside.

3.- Go through the roof on the inside (all vert inside).

4.- Move to a different location. (Another corner or room).

Edit: Whats the distance from the window (edge) to the door??

I already looked at the option of the dining room but once again were too close to the slide. I have one more possible living room arrangement to possibly make this work. If not it won't and back to craigslist it goes.

If you sell it, look for a Harman unit. It may cost a little more,
but you can terminate your vent within 18" of a window when
there's an OAK installed...

It's America you can do whatever you want....but you may have to deal with the consequences later. Most codes are overkill, design to keep people with no common sense from killing themselves. If you have common sense, which means you have read everything you can about stove installation you will be able to solve this problem.

+1, Daksy. That's how it is with my Enviro m55. though why would it not work in this situation, if OAK was installed? the physics should be the same.

but then again, if it is not in the manual it means they didn't test for it or they did and it did not work.

The straight run was going to be temporary just to get it in and running. I just don't want the front of my house to look like a hobbit house with a 3 food stack on the front of my house.

I may have a different place for this now in a corner of the living room. Will take some measurements tomorrow as I'm at work and the wife just did some rearranging of the room. Now I may have to modify my hearth and add a small extension to it on the sides and front and remove some of the tiles off the edge. I may just see if the one I have built will work with the stove on a 45 on the pad and double check measurements. If not I can adjust accordingly since I do have some white tiles left and HOPE to just pop them off without busting them.
