I have a masonary fireplace that is 36wx32hx16d it has 1-1/2 inch wood trim at 7 inches all the way around the firebox. Is there an advantage to going with an insert vs a stove given my clearances?

We are looking at the Jotul Castine, Jotul Kennebec etc... Heating is not the primary goal, ambiance and secondary heat is. I could use some guidance, the Jotul comes up 10 inches too close to the top trim, not sure if a mantel shield will cure this or not.

I will be adding a hearth extender due to the 16 inch hearth.
