Installing a wood burning insert in a pre-fab firebox

I currently have a Majestic MBU 36 pre-fab insert that has no doors or screen......it was left this way in the home we purchased. Are there any viable wood burning inserts I can use with such a setup or am i better off removing the entire unit and starting from scratch? I have read a number of threads/articles and it seems that either way is a possibility. My wife would like it to be more of a flush mount system for the clean look.......I am looking at efficiency. We have a 2500 sq ft colonial.

Measure up the fireplace opening and depth, then check out Regency inserts to see if there is a good fit.

We just went through this and installed a Travis Large Flush Mount Insert after a lot of research. One of your problems will be the trim. The insert we installed comes with a custom trip made to fit the space between the insert and our opening. For one of the insert we were looking at the installer was going to have to cut the fake brick to make the trim fit, bad idea!! Jotul makes flush mounts, but their larger model wouldn't fit. Get the biggest box you can, ours fits 24" logs (or a little more) and takes a big load of wood. You really have to do your research, not everyone at these stores knows what they are talking about.

I had a small flush insert in my prefab. I now have an insert that sticks out a little. I much prefer the current one. It heats up the place much better and can load front to back as well as side to side. It looks good and the wife likes it. Here is a picture:

That looks sweet We are selling our house inteh spring and are looking at buying a house with a prefab, so I'm keeping an eye on all these types of threads. That is a very nice set up!
