Question:

I own a home that has two fireplaces. One in a living room and one in a family room directly below it. The bottom firebox is below grade about 5 feet. They share the same large chimney, but have individual flu's. Can I install any type of outside air supply to the bottom firebox ?

Answer:

Not without either:
1.Tunneling thru the dirt and then into the fireplace
2. Coming through the inside wall, and then down to floor level, across the hearth and into the fireplace...

Either way, it's not easy.
