Hi all,

I have an install question regarding my new Elite 36. It is a question regarding how thick the cement board needs to be that gets attached to the front of the unit. I know the installation manual says 1/2 inch thick however the way my unit was put in the metal portion of it right now is flush with the wall. This means that any more cement board that I install over the unit will extend out into the room.

I was wondering if this is an issue if I went to 1/8 of an inch instead. Everywhere else around the unit I have the 1/2 inch thick board but was looking to limit the amount that it extends (I know the difference between 1/8 and 1/2 isn't much but I am a stickler for details). I will be doing ledgestone as the facing over the cement board as well.

Thanks for any feedback you may provide.

Install it according to what your manual says. You are literally playing with fire.
Either add 1/2 all around & trim your finish as required, or reinstall it correctly.
You have no other SAFE option.

Thanks Daksy... yea i kind of figured that. So what i wound up doing is from the header on down I installed the 1/2 inch on the sides and then over the unit that extends out past the wall installed 1/2 inch over that and overlapped the sides. So the sides have 1 inch of cement board. Figure with the ledgestone I am going to install the difference will be negligible.

Good call!
