hello all, I am wondering if anyone has advice on how to send new chimney through an existing chase. The chase is 16' tall and is open at the top and bottom. Below the chase will sit a wall bracket and 90 degree elbow into the house, but there is currently nothing there. The house is a 'ready to move' and came with the chase. We set it on the basement and drilled a hole for the chimney in the wall.
Attached is a photo prior to drilling a hole.

That is odd. How does one attach support brackets when the chase siding is already in place?

Are there plywood firedecks within the chase at each floor/ceiling level? If not, they may be required by the local building code.
Each one should have a metal firestop situated in the middle to keep the chimney at its specified clearance to combustibles.
There should also be a firedeck & firestop at the very top, just below a metal chasetop. That chasetop should have a collar
& a storm collar to keep rain & snow out of your chase.
If you have decided on the Class A chimney you're going to install, there should be instructions for chase type installations
as specified by the manufacturer.

Well basically you have to climb in there and do it. It is tight and it is a pain in the ass but it can be done

climb in or take the siding on one side back off, at least enough for access.

If he had enough manpower couldn't he just add section by section while lifting

Yeah but how do you support it?

The fellow I hired to put in a chimney in an existing chase climbed in there and did it. He's one wiry fellow.

That is how i do it as well it is a pain but it is faster and easier than opening up the chase.

Thanks all. I don't think a person could fit inside. I would prefer not to take the char apart since it is so high as well it is getting cold here and we will probably wreck the siding.

If only there was a way to feed it through.

how big is it? you could feed it through but you will not be able to support it as the manufacturer requires so it should not pass inspection like that.

Did you ask the contractor wth he was thinking?
