Insulation above my fire bricks question

Hello all i was getting my avalon insert ready for another winter. There is a layer of k wool that sites on top of the roof fire bricks. When it came out it was in several peaces. How important is this insulation. Can I put it back together and just try to place the peaces in. I have found a replacement but it's a few weeks out. Thank you

It'll make the firebox hotter, so more complete combustion.
I think you can put pieces back and limp along. Especially if you have sub 20% moisture content (water cools fires).

I would not burn a full season like that but for a few weeks I'd just proceed.

Can you buy ceramic blanket from Amazon in the right size?

It is important in maximizing the stoves efficiency and safety. All stove dealers sell ceramic blankets, they cut it off bulk quantities they purchase, many stove tech's and chimney sweeps in my area anyways also carry this, they can measure and cut the correct size while servicing your chimney and stove.

The photos show areas/edges that are burnt, must get really hot in there.

It will be ok to run the stove without the blanket for a few weeks. Not the most efficient, but it won't harm the stove as long as it's run at normal temps. If the blanket hasn't been ordered already, then some kaowool (ceramic) blanket can be ordered online and trimmed to fit.

Amazon US also sells it. I am not sure if the Avalon had 1/2" or 1" kaowool up there. Here is 1/2". It looks like 1/2".

Were there any weights on top of the blanket?

I kinda forgot about this. I pit the peaces in and have had a few fires but I just ordered the new stuff. Thanks
