I will be installing a wood stove insert into a 30ft exterior masonry chimney that has been inspected to be in good working order. I will be using a flex stainless steel liner as well. My question is in terms of safety do I need to insulate the stainless steel liner or since the masonry chimney is in good shape I need not worry. I do understand that by insulating, it might improve efficency.
