Was thinking about replacing the firebrick on the inside side on the Intrepid flexburn with soapstone panels. Would this be a bad idea? The replacement would be easy and the only difficult part would be to find a source for it to be cut to size. Figuring the benefit would be a somewhat longer heat time after the fire dies down later at night. Thoughts.

Not a good idea. Your stove went through extensive testing with the firebrick that it was sold with.
It has not been tested with soapstone, & therefore may not be safe. Your house, your call.

Okay. The fire brick just really lays in there loosely in a track not part of the structural side of the stove. What would be unsafe about it specifically?
