is a fire vent needed for a duct that is run directly from the stove to a floor register?

my new harmon magnum stoker which is coal by the way has this option built. All i have to do is remove the 6" plate at the top of the stove and block off the air vents in front of the stove and then i can run it directly to a floor vent.
