Hi. Does anybody know how to replace the gasket on the bypass damper for the Jotul Series 8 AP? Does the damper need to be removed, or are you supposed to reach into the damper opening from above with top plate removed to apply new gasket?

Thanks.

Is this a series 8 cat stove? If so the gasket is replaced through the flue outlet.

This is from the Oct 1997 Series 8 manual.

The smoke by-pass opening is gasketed and this
gasket should be periodically checked. The by-pass
damper is gasketed and this gasket should also be
checked for wear. The gasket is 37" long by 1/4"
diameter. To replace the gasket, open the by-pass,
remove the flue outlet and work through the outlet
opening. Stuff a rag over the top of the catalyst
before removing the gasket to prevent debris from
falling into the catalyst.
