Home Depot had a sale on 8 foot landscaping timbers for $1.97, we picked up 24 to stack next years wood on they run $3.97 regularly.

Timbers is probably a bit of an exaggeration. Are these those 4 inch veneer cores with two flats sawed off? Good price, I suppose for putting under your stacks. I would just go out back and cut down a bunch of standing dead 4 inch dia trees.
 
I was attracted to the post title because we just bought the same ones. But, for actual landscaping.

And yes, "timber" is a stretch. We replaced old, (probably 25 yrs), ones that were about an inch thicker. But, they seem to work fine for this purpose.
