Leave used, burnt wood for next time?

Hi all.

Just got done with my 2nd fire ever. The first was last week, and at someone's suggestion, I used a Duraflame log. This time, I got some wood from my local market (I assume this is ok), and I am left with a charred log. Should I keep it in there for next time, or do I need to toss it?

Yes, it's charcoal and the next fire will burn it down.

Never use a Duraflame log in a wood stove. They are meant for open fireplace burning only.

Really? Never knew that. They are marketed as both.

Duraflame logs have a wax binder (paraffin is a petroleum product). Look at the stove manual. There is usually a clause in it about them or prohibiting petroleum products.

On Duraflame's website it specifically says:

• Use in an indoor, open hearth fireplace or outdoor fireplace or fire pit

Ok. And is a prefab firebox considered a hearth fireplace?
