I am installing my insert tomorrow! Part of which I will be insulating the liner. I bought the FireFlex Insulation Wrap from FireSide Chimney Supply. I opened the box in preparations for tomorrow and inspected some insturctions but didn't find anything! I found alittle on their website but not much. I think i have it figured out from what i could find on their website and searching on here. I did have two questions.
1) Is the blanket material hazardous? (Skin or Lung?)
2) What is the spray adhesive for? I didn't see anything about that in the instructions.

Thanks

The spray holds the insulation to the liner. I'd wear a mask and gloves putting it on.

I don't know what type of insulation they use some of it can be itchy and harmful with extended exposure to your lungs. Basically to insulate it you roll the insulation out lay the liner on top of it spray the insulation and liner with glue and wrap it tightly. Then tape the seam and ends. You should also put some bands of tape around it every 5 or 6 feet. Then pull the mesh over the liner and secure the ends with band clamps. I dont wear mask or gloves but we use olympias insulation which is the nonhazardous kind

bholler have you ever had a problem with the olympias getting wet and degrading? I think that stuff is water soluble, so if water gets in for some accidental reason...

I figured Soluble meant water since it's not a bio-hazard.

Olympia offers Super-Wrap, the latest soluble fiber technology. Compared to your ordinary insulation (which contains cancer causing ceramic fibers), Olympia offers the first and only UL Listed insulation which has been tested in Europe to be non-carcinogenic.

I figured Soluble meant water:
Nope not entirely sure what they mean by that i will ask next time i talk to marc there but it is not water soluble at all

I installed that stuff and I could swear somewhere along the line I read water soluble. I will be curious what Marc says.

I have had rolls get wet i rolled them out and let them dry with no issues whatsoever. I am aslo sure that they would have a warning on the stuff if it was.

Good to know, it bugged me thinking it would get ruined if it got wet.

By the way where did you find that description? I couldn't find it anywhere

(broken link removed)

This has that description without the soluble part. And to all those that say you dont need to insulate read the section on when do i need to insulate. If you are using olympia's liners you need to insulate them for solid fuel no questions asked.

Olympia's site did not say soluble it but this one did. I could swear years ago when I put that stuff in, Olympia's site said water soluble. Good stuff on Olympia's site on the need to insulate.

I found it i will ask what it means next time i talk to someone there who would know.

Yup that looks like the same description I found. Now I am curious-er.

I can tell you it is not water soluble but i will check on what they mean next week

Thanks - I appreciate your checking on it.

Thanks for the info, i guess ill wear my respirator and long shirt and gloves, hopefully get it wrapped up before it gets too warm out.

If u want to keep it UL listed whatever that means who thought burning a fire in your house could be safe.

Are you being sarcastic? I think so but i cant tell.

Soluble doesn't have to mean dissolved by water. Could be alcohol or some other liquid.

yeah i know that i just don't know what liquid.

bholler - just checking in if you ever heard back from Olympia on the soluble liquid?

;?

They said it means it wil break down in the body. But it can get wet. Although it looses its effectiveness when wet

Kind of what I thought. It's the one disadvantage to not using ceramic.
Thanks for checking.
