Liner questions

Ok so I call to order an Osburn 2300 and salesman asks about my chimney. It appears to me that it is 8" ID galv pipe. How do I identify this further without pulling this heatilator insert? I have another thread started that has a picture of the insert. With that being said, what are my options for my new pipe?

thats factory built fireplace pipe, typically not rated to the 2100* standard required by Osburn.
you will need an insulated chimney liner, 6"

So I can just pull the 6" liner through the existing 8" pipe or am I missing something? I'm getting mixed feedback from different techs. Some say I can, others say not to...I need all new pipe~~

yeah, you should be able to put 6" liner down the existing pipe
recommend hiring a pro to confirm

You can definitely install a 6" chimney liner with insulation inside that 8" pipe. Since the current chimney pipe is air cooled, the do make a special top plate that will allow air flow in the factory built chimney. If you get the factory built top plate for a flex liner, the install should be fairly straight forward and do-able for the average DIYer

It's doable. You have to cut the damper out of the existing chimney. You will have to remove the cap & have to figure out how to attach the top plate from the liner kit to the existing components. As far a DIY, do you fell comfortable working off a ladder or on that chase top 15 feet (+/-) in the air?
