Am I the only one suddenly having to log back into hearth.com each time I visit, the last two days? "Remember Me" is checked, as always, but it seems to be forgetting me.

Not a big deal, if it's just due to some maintenance/forum reboots, but would like to resolve if it's going to be a permanent thing.

Yup, I have been having that happen on random sites. I think Microsoft pushed a big Edge update in the last day or so.
Yeah, that's what I thought the first time, but then it happened two or three times in a row. It could have been on different machines, and I just failed to take note of it, but I thought I was on the same machine at least two or three of the times it asked me to log back in.

Oh well, I just rebooted (for unrelated issue) and this time it didn't make me log in again, so maybe it's resolved.

Is not happening here, either in chrome (on my phone), or in safari or firefox on my laptop.

Weird. Just happened to me, again. Seems to be isolated to Win11 x64/Edge, as I'm not seeing the behavior on iOS/Safari or Win10/Chrome.

Daily logout continues, and Edge is being real buggy, going thru periods of non-responsiveness. Can't be the computer, it has more processing power than most small towns, might be time to switch this machine over to Chrome.

Did you try turning it on and off again?

Darnit that usually works for me.

There are many reasons this could be happening including server side issues, but it is likely client side (your side) of an issue. You likely have your browser set to log you out and clear your cookies on exit of the browser.

If not you may have stale temp files and will need to clear everything on that browser or do a full browser reset.

I haven't used the Microsoft browser for over 10 years, almost every other browser is better. I like Chrome and sometimes Opera myself.

Edge uses the same engine that Chrome does. Where it differs would be syncing browsing tabs etc between devices. All depends on what you use the most, google tech or microsoft tech.

At least Chrome is updated sooner/quicker than Microsoft software, which for browser safety is good.

Multiple reboots, but no changes in settings precede this. A Windows Update did precede this change, which likely included an Edge update, but I haven't bothered to dig that far. This is not a personal machine, it's mostly dedicated to simulation software, so I try to keep it lean... hence no Chrome install. I only use Edge on it because I sometimes get bored of watching simulation progress, and check in here at hearth. :)

I checked the browser settings, and everything is defaulted on cookie settings, no delete on close. I just did a manual delete on all cookies, see if that clears it, before setting up specific rules toward hearth.com. It's very likely the new forum advertising is causing my AV software to treat hearth.com as a malicious site and auto-deleting cookies in spite of the browser settings not set to this behavior. I say this because in checking cookies just before clearing them, there were none for hearth.com.

... and no, ABMax... Edge is not IE. Edge was released as a stripped-down OS-loaded alternative to IE in 2015, and they overlapped for more than 7 years. MS finally discontinued IE in mid-2022. Edge is less of a resource hog than Chrome, which is why I run it on this particular machine, as I only have 96 GB of RAM installed, and I'm regularly flirting with that ceiling.

Google had one update back then but was turned off. No other changes. Usually always a browser issue.

Yeah, appears that's the case. Having the same issue on another site. Interesting that it came with no change in settings, only a Windows Update.

I'll find some time to dig into it soon, and post what I find back here, but probably not today.

SOFTWARE engineers, that is.
Engineers do know best, but having the opportunity to throw switches without obtaining prior customer approval is a privilege only a few get to enjoy. In my work, I've found the best way to bring a customer around to thinking my way is to offer them a "no warranty" option on doing it their way.

That's all fine for a fresh product, but not for a product that someone got used to having certain options that after an update are decided for them.

I got a message saying I was in a group of users that had their password compromised. They requested I change it. I assumed it had something to do w that. For a while I had to put a code in that was emailed to me also. That stopped after I changed my password

In my case, it's only happening on one of the three machines from which I regularly access the forum. It happens to be the only machine running Edge (other two are Chrome and Safari), so browser settings are likely the issue. Will get around to dealing with it this week, if it doesn't self-resolve by then, last week was just too busy.

That definitely is not true, especially for MS engineers. There is a 'trust us, we know better' attitude that strongly biases their perspective. I was testing software compatibility in Windows Vista in their labs before it came out and told their engs it was terrible and would not go over well. They brought in the lead designer and I repeated the same, while demonstrating it's many flaws. Still, they released it, warts and all. There are many examples of this. Want to have a bouncing paperclip tell you? I'm sure their AI wizard will be out there doing this soon.
