We want to put a stove in before next winter and since we live paycheck to paycheck, like most americans, and I got a unexpected christmas bonus, I am looking to buy a stove now while I have the extra cash. I would like a stove that has a long enough fire box to load 16-18 inch splits north and south, with glass doors, and perferably sitting on a pedistal with ash box. Looking for sugestions, as if I get the stove now , we can buy pieces of the chimney thru the summer months and be heating by next fall, hopefully. We are going to heat a 1800 sf ranch home. Hoping to keep the cost of the stove to under $1000 plus the chimney.I appreciat any help or opinions you can offer.I have been looking at Home Depot and Lowes websites. Is there any other sites I sould be looking at?

The englander 30 is the best bang for your buck according to many on this forum. Guys swear by this stove. You often hear tales of guys finding them for well under a thousand dollars. Do a search within the forum and pm some guys who got a 30 at mythical prices. I think the trick is to order it on the home depot website in February from home depot in a certain zip code. Good luck. If you can hang on to the cash for a little while I'm sure with a little shopping you ll find what you're looking for.

Also how's you wood supply?

Found an Englander 30nch at a Home Depot 50 miles away for $899 (online price is$1099), and they will even ship it to my home for free. We are not putting it in till next fall but atleast i'll have one. I really like the size of the firebox. That thing is huge compared to all the other stoves we have looked at.

You will not be unhappy with the 30 :)

Awesome !

Awesome! Let us know how the install goes.

Now that you have good stove...really really need to start putting wood up now. Really, dont wait till summer to gather/buy it, as it wont have time to dry. Now is a great time to cut as you dont have to deal with any brush and the like. That and the chore will be done come those summer months when youll be putting your time in other places and things.

Best advice is to get as much as you can. Get more than you need so you can get a few years ahead.

Wings, if you wait a few weeks, there's a good chance that you can get that stove for $649 shipped, using the method described above by DaFattKidd. :)

I know, but im affraid if I wait, someone will come along and beet me to it, so I am going to pick it up today since I have a rain day and dont have to work. With this size firebox, even $900 is a dal compaired to the ones I have been looking at.

Start gathering your wood now. You'll be much happier next winter.

Yeah, there's no guarantee that they will do the $649 again, but if you wait and order online, you don't have to worry about someone beating you to that one at your store. Seems like they shipped from a central warehouse, and that's why the ZIP didn't matter. I think everyone who wanted one got one. I don't recall anything about them going out of stock. . .price just went back up after a few weeks. Also, overstockstoves.com had them for $980 shipped for a loong time. . .might again. :)
