Question:
We're looking to heat a 30x30 back country cabin, but also want to use the stove for cooking. Everything we've found that has an oven has too small a firebox to make it through a cold Vermont night. Any suggestions or ideas for us? Thanks
Answer:
You are pretty much on the money...most cookstoves have much smaller fireboxes and are not designed for overnight heating. I assume you've seen the Waterford Stanley, HeartLand, etc. AustroFlamm (a Swiss Company) has one with a small oven on top of the firebox. If anyone knows about this, it's be the folks at Lehmans hardware... try http://mostwoodstoves.com
11/2007 Hearthstone just came out with a wood cookstove. While the firebox size is likely not adequate to heat a house it is a very nice unit for those looking for such a thing.
