Lopi Freedom Semi-Flush?

Hello there,

I am new to the board, so this is my official first threat. We just bought a lopi freedom insert and it is going to be installed this week. Unfortunately I don't have the depth available to flush mount it. Had anyone semi flush mounted one of these? Or possibly mounted it with no surround at all? I would like to keep it as far into the opening as possible.

My wife wanted a flush unit, but the only ones that would fit didn't have the btu my 2500 sq ft house needs. So functionality beats aesthetics, for the win!

I'm in the same boat, new here, and next week for my Lopi Freedom install .

We have the space for a flush install but opted against it so we have the cooking surface for emergency's and to increase radiant heat. One thing I do know is that you have to order the flush mount kit separately for the Lopi Freedom if you want it to sit flush. I'm not sure how that relates to your install and your desire to get it as far into the opening as possible. You may want to check out the service manual (broken link removed to http://www.lopistoves.com/TravisDocs/93508020.pdf). Page 29 has details on the flush mount kit.

No problem installing the insert in the extended instead of the flush position. It will actually heat better, especially with the fan off in a power outage. Just be sure your hearth coverage in front of the stove door is 16" or more and that the mantel clearance requirements are honored.

I have cut the Flush kit in half before so itcan be done. Begreen is right though it is a better heater in the standard version.

i have the lopi freedom insert. with the installation i have, the insert is past the face of the fire place and sticks out on the hearth around 7". be sure you have the minimum amount of hearth in front of the stove. i think its 16" minimum. that insert throws a lot of heat. the hardwood floor 18" away gets quite warm when that thing is cranking

Thanks for the replies! I am just going to stick with the standard install at 7" past the opening. The ability to keep a pot on top is a nice option. I will just have to tell the wife there was no other choice... Which is partly true.

Install is tomorrow, can't wait to sit in my living room without needing a stocking cap on. I'll post install pictures with a good fire rolling. Thanks all!

I have an old Lopi LX Extended Hearth insert in my masonry fireplace.
I would say about half is in the fireplace opening and about half extends out of the fireplace opening.
Works pretty good.
