Hello!

It's been a few year since I've posted here. Cold winter in NC has us burning our Buck model 21 almost full time. The coals are always building up - daily. Am I burning wood that is too small, too often? Once I build a coal base should I strive to have just one honker log on there?

I use 95% Hickory, then oak. However I burn, the coals build up fast. I know it's a small stove and I now know I should have gotten a larger one, but it is what it is. Any tips you could give me will help..

Or I can just keep on emptying her....

Thanks!

Try opening up the air at least 50%, raking the coals forward and putting one or two smaller 2-3" thick splits on the coals. If you have some softwood splits they work well.
