M55 Insert Auger Cover

Does anyone have a link to instructions on how to get access to/adjust the auger cover on the Enviro M55 Insert?

My unit has the new blower fan, but the heat output is really weak. It was 60-68 degrees out today and I had the stove on 3 all day - got home from work and the room where the stove is was only 70 degrees.

My flame on 5 is smaller than the flame on 1 in that video. Attached is a pic of my stove on 5.

I want to adjust the auger cover in order to hopefully address my issues.

I didn't find it hard to locate on my insert. I pulled it out, and there are 8 or so torx screws. I removed them and a big stainless steel plate came off, and viola, the auger is right front of you. Pita to remove the stove, but the rest is easy.

I am trying to decide whether to adjust the auger trim plate or remove altogether.

Wound up moving the cover up an inch. Stove is running a lot better

Thanks for the reply. I went to my local store and the tech there showed me how to access the cover. The tricky part for me was that I could only pull the stove forward so much before it would fall off the hearth. So basically I was doing everything blind - but once the tech showed me where I needed to be, it was pretty easy.

Moved the cover up and it made a huge difference. Haven't had much time to test it yet, but I'm optimistic. Surprised this isn't a common problem for people. I only had the stove for a few weeks last season, but I was really disappointed. I kept reading on here how people were getting so much heat out, never turned it higher than 3, etc, etc - but my results were very different (on 5 full time). Now I have renewed hope for this season.

Consumption has definitely increased - for obvious reasons.

Not sure how much I moved it up - again, did everything blind - but I reached in and took a before/after pic [attached]. I'm guessing about an inch?

By the way, my flame on high is still smaller than the flame on 3 in the video above. The tech told me this could be due to the type of pellet - I'm burning Turman (east coast hardwood).

It looks like you positioned your cover exactly as I did! I set mine so you can see only the last hole. Mine is running very good now. I will know more this weekend when I can run it wide open.

Results have been fantastic. It's like a completely different stove.

I get about 11.5 hours run time on setting 3. About 9.5-10 hours on 4. Haven't had the need to test 5 yet!

I did this mod today, and wanted to share for others planning to do it. It does help with heat and burn, and for reference it is a T15 torx for the screws.

So, there is an access plate on the rear of the stove that allows entry into the hopper?
Try as I might, I can only get half my forearm I'm through the pellet feed opening.

Hi Spencer - yes, there is a rear access plate. Pull the stove forward and you will see a large access plate (if I remember correctly, it runs just about the entire width of the stove) with maybe 8 or so T15 Torx screws. Remove those and you'll have a straight shot to the auger cover. [Hopper must be empty, of course]

By the way, if you're using shorter pellets, be careful with this 'mod' not to overfire the stove. The Turmans I usually use are not short, but I was recently feeding it some AWF Ultra Softwood Pellets, which are notably shorter than the Turmans, and it was really really feeding a ton of those.

I don't run my stove on 5 because I get smoke in the firebox (due to huge billowing flames).

Just keep an eye on it - the cover is there for a reason, obviously.
