This summer I thought about rebuilding my EarthStove. Put new firebricks in and go through it and check for cracks. The one thing I am thinking of doing is welding a 2 pieces of angle and piece of 1/4" steel plate on top of those to make a baffle. The only thing I have to stop the heat from completly going up the Chimney is a pipe damper. What are your thoughts.

If you have no baffle, then adding one should significantly improve the efficiency of your stove.
A few suggestions, angle it upwards a bit to reduce smoke spillage, add some high temp insulation on top, add a piece of angle on the top of the baffle in front of the flue collar to deflect flue gas ( my Regency has this).
If you want to go all the way, add some stainless steel secondary burn tubes.
