Question:

Is there a minimum distance required (fire code?) between the top of the fireplace and bottom of the mantel? We are installing a zero clearance, wood burning fireplace in a new home.

Answer:

Yes, there is always a spec for this distance. However, it is different for each and every brand name and model. It will be clearly stated in the manual for the specific fireplace.
