Me thinks maple

The split side definetly looks maple, but I now question the bark side. Is it possible this is something other than maple?
Also, if it is maple any idea what kind?

Appears to be red maple.

Bark appearance can vary a lot with soft maple. There's two mature reds in the side yard here with different bark. One loses its leaves before the other every year.

Im thinking sugar maple. I think Sugar bark has a rounded off pebbly look to it. Like tumbled stones.
I try NOT to cut sugar so trying to tell them from Reds is not easy if the Red has the plated bark.
My next door neighbor taps the sugars and has a sugar house so we collectively spare the trees.
My vote for sugar...but sometimes Im wrong.

I also say sugar maple. It looks nothing like Norway maple to me.

That is hard maple, sugar. I am burning it in the stove now. Sweet gum would be darker brown after dry. Hold it for 2-3 years and it will be like red oak.

Thank you all. I appreciate the input of the experts.
It is heavy and it surly burns nice and long. It just did not look like the sugar maple I have seen before, hence the post.
The silvers, Norways surly burn nice and quick. This burns much longer. The bark threw me off completely.
Btw we have no "sweet gum" around here as far as know.

Just a guess. I haven't seen any hard maple on my property, just red
