need some advice guys. I know this has nothing to do with wood stoves but this forum seems to see the most traffic and I need a quick answer. I bought $130.00 dollars worth of meat to smoke at my cabin over the next 4 days only to get here and find two mice nests in my grill! WTF. I’m pissed and the wife is freaked out to say the least. Any suggestions on what to do so I don’t have to live off of beer alone for the weekend?

Your lucky. My buddy's mouse made a nest overnight in his Ford pick up under the timing belt. Upon start up the mouse died but the belt skipped one cog.

Of course. Plus you will be cleaning your grates as usual right?

I’d hate to think of how many spiders I’ve eaten.

I usually clean them with charcoal.... that’s on fire. And a quick brush. Should do the trick.

You've probably got it fired up already, but if you or the wife are paranoid enough still, could use some vinegar and baking soda paste to wipe the surfaces down. Get the soda out, fire it up and let it all cook out, then start smoking.

Enjoy the weekend at the cabin.

So luckily I brought up the side firebox with us. (The grill is a char-griller dual fuel). We were able to grill some burgers and dogs to get us through the night. I soaked the grates in vinegar over night. Sprayed the whole grill down with chlorox (only thing in the cabin with bleach). Rinsed it real well with the hose. Then sprayed it real good with vinegar. Now I have it full of charcoal doing a dry run before I put any meat on. I will hook up the side firebox in a little bit and smoke some chicken first. To follow is 4 racks of babyback ribs, 4 pounds of brautwurst, 8lb pork butt, and some more chicken breast. And beer to keep me occupied while the grill does it’s thing. Happy holiday everyone

Wait a minute, you were freaking out about a mouse or 2 and now you are saying you grilled dogs?

The wife was freaking out about the family of mice scattering when we opened the grill yesterday. The side firebox was brand new that I brought up from home.

I've got rid of most of my mice, but occasionally I'd have a nest in my grill. I would just take the 450,000 btu propane torch and run that for a minute or two. Seems sanitized enough for me.
