@Jags - asparagus from seed is a long term proposition, big boy. I bought mine as crowns and you aren't supposed to pick them the first year. From seed- I would guess you'd need multiple years before they're strong enough to pick. It's nice having them come back every year and produce spears that my wife *claims* are intimidating. (I have Irish heritage)

Yep - very aware of that. I let my crowns go two years. This year will be the first cutting. The seed pack says 720 days before harvest. I'm gonna wait 721 days just to be sure.

Not the biggest I've picked, but that is a large fluff for scale

I have tomato seedlings started. A couple of the peppers are starting to come up.

You're so right about those Japanese beetles. They made Swiss cheese out of the top of my trellis. I still got 5.5 lb of cones though, which isn't bad for the first year.

I forgot that I planted a Cascade rhizome last spring. It put out some decent vines, but no flowers.

We won't have enough to go total mash, but it will be fun to add them to our brew.

Possible that you over-fertilized? That can cause growth, but no flowers. (Though hops lover fertilizer)

Could have pick something more obscure for comparison? Seriously, that gives me no idea of scale.
Knowing your (quirky) sense of humor you probably picked the Fluff for that very reason. ;)

It was after drying 3 days, but they were still a little moist. I pulled down a bunch of window screens in the house and used them for drying. Don't think it worked that well. Maybe this summer I build a dryer. I have great soil and lots of sun.

That's a great picture. You can smell the alpha acids.

I want things other than snow piles growing in my backyard again.

This winter is so bad. Not even sure if it is worth it to plan a big garden. Keeping it small this year.
 
Lettuce, broccoli and kale plants will be going in the ground here soon. I'm moving them into larger pots today. Getting ready to plant potato starts and onions. Our leeks overwintered nicely and are looking good.
