Found these for 259 a ton, which is a great price for softwoods in my area. It's funny too, found them up north in Plymouth NH, the people at the store were so concerned that I was going to be burning softwoods in my stoves...then I told them it is all I burn and they looked even more concerned! Good more softwoods for me!

See the pics of the package...

Test burn over the weekend and will let you guys know how them burn!

So far these burn decent. Unlike burning other softwoods I have to tend to the burn pot much like hardwoods. Both my XXV and accentra insert get the same.

The ash that does form gets pretty crusty and tough on the end of the burn pot which I've never really seen before but there is so little ash I havnt had to empty the ash pan on the accentra yet. I was having to do that every few days which the cleanfires.

The one these about these "softwoods", they are dark like hardwood pellets. Every other softwood I've burned has been very light in color.

Heat output is good but definitely not as great as the cleanfires! There is an ash trade off though!

Call me a snob but I still prefer the cleanfires!

The people selling the softwood pellets were concerned about you burning them? What did they think people did with softwood "energy source" pellets, eat them?

Haha I have no idea....they seem to only think hardwood should be burned, period....

These pellets burn pretty good though, at least for the price!

I test burned a bag of these when starting out, IIRC they are from Robert Kraft's ( Patriots owner ) company, hence the Minute Men logo.

re: burn, same experience here, would be a decent shoulder pellet. Almost looked like a hardwood pellet here also.

You get the 'first burn of NH season" award, BTW. (If I tried test burning now I'd be sleeping in the wood shed, LOL.)

LOL, I just saw the date of dlavigne's reply.. ok, 1st burn award is rescinded. ;)
