Went to Baileys online and their meters sell for over $100. This one at HF is $13. I think a trip to HF is in order soon. I wonder if they have meters and falling wedges in stock or those are internet only items.

I am dying to test wood that I have drying. I'll probably be greatly disappointed, but that is life.

I bought this one . Its very durable I just found out . I was stocking the wood shed and garage yesterday and would split some random splits to make sure moisture levels were good . After lunch I left to run some errands and when I got back home I couldn't find the moisture meter , then i remembered I had left it on the toolbox in the bed of the truck . I ended up finding it 1500 feet or so down the road a little dinged up and missing the battery cover but still in working order . I checked it on splits I already tested and got the same results so I think the calibration is still good .

They have meters and falling wedges in stock at the store here.
I have a HF meter and a General Tools meter one is as good as the other but, I like the HF better, it's smaller, fits in pocket ,and powers up quicker than the General Tools meter , oh ya it's cheaper

Thanks for the heads up There's an HF about 10 miles from me. I used to think that place was bogus, but they sell cheaper tools for people who don't need professional grade. Not a bad idea.

I have a ryobi MM, works pretty good. Can't remember what I paid for it. Its not a typical mm where it has 2 probes coming out of the unit, this has two pads that lay against the wood. I like it

I have the HF meter, mostly just to play with. I'm pretty sure different species give different readings. Most of the readings I get seem in line, but cherry rounds sitting for six months shouldn't check at 16%, consistently.

Need to use a meter, depending how fresh, split and stacked. My cherry I cut back in April is 18%.

Just curious. Which do you like better? Burning wood or pellets. I guess pellets are easier in some ways, but no free pellet scores!

I know someone who put a Harmon in back in 2011. she and her husband really like it. They said they burn about $4 worth a day or so.

Pellets are easier but wood throws off more heat.

I'm sure the HF one will be fine. No need to spend more that $15 these days. I've been using one very similar to this one for a year and it's fine. The stove was $4,500 installed. Those suckers aren't cheap. They have a lot of technology going on to incinerate those little pellets.

Yeah...I hear you. I can burn natural gas, but I choose to spend the money on the hobby for the love of burning wood.
