Hi,

recently moved into a new home which was fitted with a morso 6143 which has a built in log storage unit as the base. I can see via Google that it is part of the morso 6100 range where I assume it’s the same stove but with different bases. Question is, we want to build a fire place around it and have the stove effectively inset into the wall. I would get a specialist to do this. But specifically I want to lose the log storage base as we will have a log storage built into the wall, design to be agreed as yet. So can I just remove the base and have it sat directly on a hearth, it would still be at pretty much the same height, though this is irrelevant to the question, or would I need to swap the base for maybe the 6140 base? Assuming bases are interchangeable and available to purchase separately. Hopefully someone is available to advise. Thank you, Richard

It would be good to speak to Morso support about these questions. The 6100 series was not designed for this application. If the log storage base is removable, the next question would be clearances. The 6143 alcove clearance requirement is an 84" ceiling. If the entire enclosure is made non-combustible, top, sides and back with no combustibles like wood behind any of these surfaces, then it may be possible, but in order to get insurance approval, it would be worthwhile to get this in writing from Morso.

Thank you, yes the alcove would be of non combustible material. I’m a surveyor and fully aware of the building regs and fire safety requirements, insurance etc around such installations. Just want to know if the base was interchangeable. I’ll call morso.

This thread is not too old, so I thought I would check in and see how your search for answers went Richard.

I have the same stove with the pedestal base (the 6148), but would also like to drop it lower on the to be able to exhaust out of the back and into an existing Victorian case iron fireplace opening. I think I could achieve it with the short base (6140) or possible even with the wood holder base that you wanted to remove. Did you find out more about the ability o mix and match the bases on these sibling stoves?

Al the best,
Mark

Lol, got me! He was only here for a single day though. Hopefully he comes back, but I don’t know if I’d wait for him to answer.
