So the wife and I are doing it. Moving the business out of the house and in to a retail location...

very exciting! Will give you all the details when I can!

I dont see any chimneys

Yeah, got to put all of those in.Thinking a simple Class A 8" right up the front and building out a nice masonry hearth....gotta watch the fundage though. Got kinda a slim budget to start.

It's a beautiful space. Actually it's two spaces. One with an overhead door and workshop in rear, about 600 sqft with a 300 sqft front show room and the second unit has two back offices with a 850 sqft show room out front. They abut each other so opening up a wall is pretty easy. Going to combine the two spaces in the front for a spacious showroom. Out back off the parking lot we are going to put up our 20x50 king shelter 4 season canopy to store pellets...selling by the bag ONLY until I can afford some type of forklift. Should have the whole operation up and going by August.

Sorry, cannot tell you what product lines we are going to have yet until I actually get the dealer agreements back from my lawyer, but I can tell you that we will have a pretty good selection of stoves, inserts, furnaces and boilers as well as some other renewable options. Got a call in to a friend with a Solar operation and we were tossing th idea around about an interactive digital kiosk to build your own Solar/ heat system. Cool thing about it..if the biomass boiler is part of the backup for a solar thermal system...the whole system is subsidized by the Guvament 30%

Kinda PSYCHED! 7 miles from my house right on Route 44 in Rehoboth, on the Dighton line.

Couldn't believe that my wife was so on board with this when I floated the idea past her!!! ....I think she is more excited than I am. I had all these rationalizations at my defenses...was like, "just come down and check out this space with me?", thinking I was going to have to try and win her over...she was just so cool about it. Perhaps we both feel like its time.

Yeah, my wife is awesome....or,

Perhaps she envisions Daddy being around more, or most likely, perhaps she is looking to reclaim her garage/ workshop space and get all my tools, stoves, trucks and other residual crap outta the yard!;)

Wife probably wants the crap out of the house/yard but either way a win win situation for both of you. Congratulations.

Have you decided what your going to heat it with?

Yes, it will be with pellets, but I cannot tell what brand just yet. When everything is official (we have the lease signed) then I can let the cat out of the bag. There is a fireplace store about 4 miles away from our location and I don't think he knows that I'm going in to the retail business yet. Not that it really matters, but I don't want something weird to happen...so until the lease is signed and the stoves are delivered...gotta keep quiet.;)

But, yeah, a floor model freestanding unit with an enamel finish has already been ordered....that will be the first heater installed. Still waiting on the building inspector to let me know how many burn units I can have. I think it's 6. Whatever the max number is is how many working floor models we'll have.

Congrats

Any TV ads?
Now you will have additional warranty work too!

No TV ads. Who's kind of money do you think I have?

[Hearth.com] Moving...

TV ads are a real quick way to get a ton of tire-kickers into the show room. I want to sell to people who are too busy to watch TV. I don't think I'll have an issue getting people in the door. I have done my research and I'm quite web savvy.

Congrats Scott..
Do keep us aware of your brands and what pellets you'll carry (I can guess on a couple of them)
You'll do well there as ther is not a huge choice for retail locations around our area....What will be your nearest competitor, Seekonk?

Yup. 4 miles away in a straight line. Next closest real dealer is either Mansfield or Middleboro. Rehoboth needs something like this big time. There is a guy down the street who thinks he is going to have a shop too...but I just beat him to the punch. Part of why I had to do this right now.

Hello

Fireplace showcase in Seekonk looks big!

It is a massive operation.....lots of stuff to see and touch. HOWEVER, customer service at this place is like trying to play with a ferrel cat! there are smaller dealers not too far away that show much more interest in you, and what you want.

Thanks. Perhaps I can bounce some things off those of you who deal with retail day to day. Any thoughts?

heh....well, should be an interesting foray for you, methinks! my best advice would be not to let your future customers dictate your prices, and don't fall prey to matching the prices of your stupidest competition......for starters

Definitely congratulations are in order. Looks like a nice place with a decent amount of footage. Good luck with the move and don't forget to give us finished pictures once you get your burning units in. (Not that you would)

Congrats Scott. Huge step for you and wifey. Best wishes for you both.

congrats! Nice spot

Giving the "bros" some competition eh? ;)

Congrats. Looks like you'll have a good setup there.

Congrats Scott. Looking forward to the progress of your location.

As always.... pics..... Never happened ;)
