mt vernon AE auger motor Testing

I am working on a Mt Vernon AE for a friend. Not that familar w/ these stoves except replacing igniters. Auger jam message is coming up. Auger is not turning. I pulled feed assembly and cleaned tube and everything and found no jams. I want to test motor w/ a 12v battery to check motor but I dont know which wires to hook to. There is a White, Black, Red and Yellow. Any other info or suggestions would be appreciated.

Could be the optical sensor. I have a brand new stove that is not working because if it. Waiting on part. Dealer not helpful quadrafire told me i was on my own and work with a dealer that wont return a call. Poor customer service.

Could be the optical sensor.

Try using some dust remover (compressed gas) that is sold for cleaning computers. The optical sensor tells the controls that the auger is turning. If the sensor gets dirty you get a fault. I don't know why anyone would design an optical sensor into a system that can be contaminated with wood dust. I learned not to do that 40 years ago. I haven't had trouble with mine yet, but I expect it to happen.

I am not getting motor to even start to turn. Which tells me that it should not be due to opt. sensor. If sensor was failing I would think auger would turn then stop due to eye not seeing it turn. Does anybody know which wire to apply power to, to verify the operation? Black and yellow seem to be a pair and red and white seem to be a pair. One pair for forward and one pair for reverse?

Since this is a low Voltage DC motor with four leads, I expect that it cannot be driven from a battery alone. It is probable that the motor is driven by electronics in the controller that generates a rotating pattern of excitation for the two windings. These are all educated guesses, but based on over forty years of designing electronic systems.

With that bieng the case there is no way to positively tell if the motor is bad or if it is bieng told to turn.

It would be wonderful to get this service manual as well... This thread looks like a few years old, had my stove for 7-8 years, first auger jam, now I'm having missed ignitions. Not sure what is going on. I see the igniter glow, so don't think it's that...

Just removed the auger for 2nd time, blew it out and wanted to test it before I stick it back in...
