MT Vernon AE Pellet Insert Installation

Hi All,
I just have 3 questions regarding the installation for Mt Vernon insert.

1- Do I need to purchase the OAK-3 kit? is there a cheaper way? I have no chimney, it will go direct through the wall.
2- For the vent, does it have to be up 5 feet? can it be direct vent or 90 elbow then direct vent?
3- Can the distance between the intake for the insert and the vent be only 2 feet?

1 you do not need to purchase the oak. You will need an oak if you live in a mobile home, or your township requires it. Search for OAK on the site if you care to read more. This issue has been discussed many times.

2 my inlaws have a 2 foot rise then a 90 through the wall. It works just fine. However, the rise is helpful in creating a natural draft that will help prevent smoke back flow in case of a power outage while operating. Having an oak will also help prevent this.

3 I believe this is the minimum. You should also take into consideration prevailing winds. You don't want to intake exhaust air, it will lead to a loss in performance.

So I can leave the intake without OAK and it will take the air from the dog house? because I don't have chimney, all I have is insert which goes into dog house where I used to have my propane fireplace.

Correct, if you have no intake the stove will use the ambient air in the room, causing a slight negative pressure in the house which will be naturally replaced through the cracks and leaks that are found in any home.
